Fairy Tale by paravex Fairy Tale by paravex

wings and leaf texture unknown. The sky. Why not?

I've always enjoyed fairy tales. The thought that mere ink on pieces of paper can take you to a whole other world and a whole other time where the impossible is possible just facinates me. What facinates me just as much is the visuals that pop into people's heads upon reading stories. We all have a specific idea of what a certain character looks like and sounds like. Each idea is individual and unique.

I was thinking of old fairy princess stories while making this one. In which the fairy princess, loved by all, lives in a beautiful forest filled with wonderous and magical delights. But despite living in this happy forest, she is sad. Why is she sad? Well, it's the beginning of the story so we don't know yet. But I'll let you figure out the reason for her sadness and perhaps even write her story. Just remember to give it a happy ending.

REALLY cool pic. I would blend the bottom of her dress just a bit, other than that, excellent!

Has a nice tone to it, but the lighting on the girl doesn't really seem to match the rest of the peice.

It's pretty. :) Very surreal and kind of flat looking -- not a bad thing. :) It just makes me feel like I'm in a lovely dream.

its a wonderful piece, the only thing i would pick up on is the lighting, as shes lighter than her surroundings, however that may be intentional?

At first I didnít think I liked the model so centered, but now that I look at it closer it really creates a visual path. My eye noticed the model but was drawn the rich green of the background, but more importantly the white space in the top middle. IT seems like thereís a lot going on in the image, but at the same time there isnít.

I have no idea what you did the image to make the blacks look almost 3-d but itís a really interesting effect, every part of this image demands attention which is niceÖ but also can be a downfall, as the topic merits the busyness it doesnít affect the over all power of it. To be honest Robin, Iím really digging this piece youíve started to understand textures really quickly and know how to achieve the type of feel you want which is the staple of art is it not? I have to comment again on how much I love the play on colors here, The rich greens, the dark blacks, and then the model done in a sepia earthy tone really bring out the fairy tale feel you wanted.

thanks for comment man. It definatley beats the "I like it! fix it!" comments I seemed to have gotten...

I have a feeling that this is going to be one of those items where I open up the .psd when I have some spare time and fiddle around with it. But your right, I'm starting to understand textures and using them to my advantage. I'm really starting to like getting images out of my head using pictures as well as words.

And I thank you for teaching me about textures in the first place. If not for you, I would never have thought about using them.

I do agree with above on the shadow thing .. bit of a stickler for shadows me but there you go .. apart from that this is just a super stunning work .. and I like the in on the picture .. real nice touch to tie it all in with your explanation :) very well thought out and executed :)

Well, I could comment on the shadows but all I can say is...I'm new. I really am new to this type of stuff and this was my first attempt at creating a more comprehensive scene using multiple pictures rather than the abstract wallpaper-esque things I have been doing.

I'm really glad you like it. it means a lot. And don't thank me for using your stock. I thank YOU for providing people with such beautiful stock.

LOL Well if it wasn't for you there would just be an empty stock photo so mutual respect to both :) .. I know how ard shadows can be but to me a shadow can really kill a dev out right its just somethign about them take a perfect dev ...revome the shadow ... pile of krud that just looks WRONG ........ Now you know why I stick clear of photo manipulations cos of that reason :)

BTW thanks so much for the :+devwatch: too means a lot to me as well that you like my stuff enuff to keep an eye on me :) keep it up and keep them coming :)

cool! i really like the dark ink spots, especially the ones on the floor, they look like stones. and the woman seems to have extra light than its background, maybe tone down its brightness. im not too sure since i also do not know how to do so, but all in all a good pic =)

The model doesn't quite fit, but her pose and outfit are nice, and that aspect goes with the soft light all around her quite well.
I really do not think the black specks fit in this picture at all though; they take away from the picture and flatten it out (since they are all on the same level)

Otherwise, nice concept and design. :)

I agree with Dragra. However, a shadow here or there doesnt' suffice alone. Since you're going to be doing this kind of stuff I highly suggest getting used to the dodge/burn tools. These tools can help a lot with dynamic lighting and with blending other pieces into a scene. It's a tough technique and can be time consuming.

Tip: Use the eye dropper tool and pick the colors around the girl (in the background). Then, start brushing on to the girl. It doesn't have to be a lot, but keep in mind that environments have an effect on an entity.

Tip: Create a border for all your works. White/black and black/white are the most common but you need to experiment and see what fits best for each situation.

Hope this helps. Good luck and remember to have fun!

thanks for the blending tip. I've been racking my brains trying to figure out a better way to blend her in. I tried adding shadows but it just looked too...odd.

The bottem of the model doesn't look right with the b/g, sort of stuck on. maybe putting a shadow there may help it blend in more.

Absolutely brilliant. It'd be really nice if the bottom of the dress 'fitted' better against the ground, but aside from that the detail in this are astounding. I love the way the stairs are visible through the wings. Lovely work...

In one word, WOW. I like the splotches of ink that was added. Hmm, I wonder why she's sad? I need more imagination I think. But it's very creative, nice work :)
